Fishing Guide Service

GUIDED FISHING TRIPS IN FLORIDA'S COASTAL BEND

On Florida’s Big Bend area from Cedar Key to Steinhatchee, I provide inshore guiding service, fishing shallow water from a new 16-foot aluminum boat with room for two angler guests. Depending on the time of year, tides and weather, I fish out of Steinhatchee, Cedar Key and Horseshoe Beach.

STEINHATCHEE
From January through May, we catch a variety of fish including seatrout and redfish, with additional catches of Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish. I also like to set out a bigger rod for cobia, tarpon and shark, to keep things exciting. October through December, we look for seatrout, redfish and the autumn run of big Spanish mackerel and flounder.

CEDAR KEY
This area is best fished June through August. Located toward the southern end of the Big Bend coastal area, Cedar Key is still a quaint fishing village situated several miles out in the Gulf. It offers a great variety of fish species that prowl the sandbars, grass flats and channels. Four islands just offshore are great for landing on or wading. Trout and reds are our main targets.

ABOUT THE CAPTAIN
• I’ve fished the Gulf Coast since 1967 and have been a fishing guide since 1994.

• My fee is $250 for a full day of fishing for one angler, $300 for 2 anglers.

• No fishing license is required as my guide license covers you.

• Fishing weekdays is preferable; weekends are okay but count on more boat traffic and fishing pressure, especially Saturday mornings.

• I fish out of a 16-foot AlumaCraft boat, which accommodates two anglers (in addition to myself). This type of boat is well suited for fishing shallow grass flats, creeks and near coastal waters of the Coastal Bend area and we catch lots of fish. With that said, it is a fair weather boat. If you are booked for a day that is experiencing bad weather, we will have to reschedule., I watch the weather closely and will keep you informed. Note: I have not had to reschedule yet in the past two years, but wanted you to know that it can happen.

• I generally bring four fishing rods: Three spin outfits for casting all day and a bait-caster with slightly heavier line, in case a big fish shows up. If you get tired of casting, I can rig you up with a cork and live bait. We also fish for redfish using artificials and/or various types of bait. For added insurance, it is sometimes advised that the customer buy live shrimp.
