The oilfish is called a snake mackerel, and lives at great depths in blue water. They're caught in the Gulf of Mexico, most often on tuna longlines, but also by anglers making deep drops for bottom fish. Oilfish average at least four feet long and weigh from 40 to 60 pounds.
